Marauder 4X Blue Print by LKY13 Marauder 4X Blue Print by LKY13
I was able to work with Iron Wind Metals to produce a set of orthographic images for the upcoming Marauder 4X sculpt. The original art was created by Matt Plog and Shimmering Sword working together. I just took their artwork and made a set of blueprints (if you will) to make sculpting easier for Mr. Behrle Hubbuch at IWM. I also created a top and rear view, but have omitted them here. I have seen the nearly finished sculpt and its going to create a few fans (to keep things modest). Can't wait.

Any possibility of a High-Res copy for personal poster prints?  Also, any other blueprints coming down the tubes? This is awesome.  I would love to see this kind of thing for all of your mechs, very nice!!!

It's a much better MAD than the PP version, but I still find it too broad in the torso and legs. Excellent art though

After looking at the original work I see a few mistakes, most obvious are the double shoulder pads instead of a longer back. I can see where the confusion came from in the lineart regarding that though.
the center piece of the pelvis is too narrow and pointy. And the top of the srm6 launchers is the wrong angle. (it should be sloping down)
The blue print itself is nice though something just seems to have gotten lost in translation from angled pieces to orthographics.

just my 2 cents I'm just looking forward to this mini as well for reason you are well aware of :P

Like everything I do in an official capacity, I was heavily art directed on this with several revisions. Some of the changes you mention above are a result of comments from those with a higher authority than I (the SRMs were radically different, sloping downward etc). =)

Ah I see, I have a pet peeve when things don't match the source art. something I've seen in Battletech way too often :(

Yes... but the source art of the MAD netted BT legal problems.

I was refering to the source art by Anthony Scroggins and Matt Plogg not the original Glaug

All too often I don’t understand why things are the way they are, but I have to follow the instructions I’m given. I’m not an artist with an ego to feed, and I don’t think you have to be a tool to succeed in the art world (maybe I’m wrong in this). That said, it would be nice to have a little more faith in some of the direction given. Why does an artist working with another artist create so much friction anymore?

Anyway, I still had fun with this. :sushi:

Oh, you didn't offend. Not what I was saying at all. =(

I did not know that you have also seen the mini. Did you like it?

I imagine Ray must have shown it to you?

ah sorry misunderstanding then.
I saw the mini through Anthony, at one point I was being considered to produce the mini of the 4X and i'm under catalyst NDA so there was no harm in showing me.
Maybe I'm biased but I don't really like it. I won't go into too much detail publicly since it hasn't been revealed publicly yet but my above comments about your blueprint also go for the mini plus a few others mainly revolving around the srms.
I wont say its a bad mini but to me it just doesn't look like the source art as much as I'd like

Well, there are two images for the 4X. The original black and white image combining Plog’s and Anthony’s vision, then there is the cover art that was solely created by Anthony. Both are similar, and yet uniquely different. I attempted to blend elements from both, but again this went through several revisions after that. I’m sorry that you don’t like it, but I think you’ve made that clear by now. I’m not offended; I just don’t know why you keep bringing this up. I doubt Anthony, or Plog like it ether, but what am I supposed to do? I can only do my best within the parameters I’m given. Sucks, but I can only say that it was changed from my original interpretation and move on. It’s not like I was in this for the money. I was only attempting to help the BT community to get a better end sculpt. Again, I’m sorry if that didn’t work out for you, or Anthony. I think it would have been wise to get both original artist to chime in on this, but those in charge ether didn’t think of this, or didn’t want to get too many voices in the mix. Perhaps I should apologize for not thinking outside of the box enough to contact Anthony myself, but in my defense I did try this in the past. Good luck, and congrats on you getting a green light for future work with BT.

I had to check what makes it an X design.
It uses prototype tech from 3039.
I wonder if there is a non-X variant too.

And prototype double heat sinks. The binary laser is, technically, experimental too.

The miniature is looking fantastic. Especially, with all the added rear detail. Looking forward to a few custom variants that are sure to come from the community.
